We all experience challenges at one time or another in our lives. At times we are able to resolve issues without efforts, yet other times we may become so overwhelmed or presented with an unknown dilemma without a solution. In order to progress, we must adapt to the changes within as well as around us.
My approach to counseling is solution-focused, addressing the cognitive as well as behavioral components that impact one’s progress. Collaboratively, client(s) and I will work on exploring, understanding, and resolving issues on an individual and/or couple basis.
What this means is that we will create concrete plans, objectives, and strategies to meet your goals. We will disrupt old ways of thinking that are no longer helpful and consider other options that are more adaptive. We will also review your motivation for change. My role will be to hold you accountable to these plans and help you adapt to any unforeseen roadblocks.
I have experience working with individuals 15 years-old and older who have experienced depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, as well as autism. In my work with the individual, we have worked on barriers to employment and/or school, relationships with family, friends, and significant others, as well as understanding the internal changes they have undergone. I have also worked closely with their families in providing psychoeducation and collaborative work to foster understanding and change within their relationships.
If you choose to work with me, we will address the significance as well as the impact of life experiences on your goals. My purpose is to help you work towards increasing the insight and awareness for change. I aim to create an open, caring environment that fosters your growth on a holistic level. -
In order to optimize the development of my professional counseling identity, I am required by the state accreditation board to receive clinical supervision from a licensed professional counselor. Dr. Monica P. Band, LPC (DC, VA & VT), CRC, NCC, ACS, CCC, CCCE, is serving as my sole and primary onsite supervisor for the duration of my residency.
